HP 15-ay011nr is one of the newer laptops with interesting features: quite low price but pro-level components. Or what do you think about the 6th generation Core i5 processor and Full HD screen? Very nice, but might be there are also disadvantages in this computer… Let’s see!
It’s not a bad processor that is commanding the HP 15-ay011nr with battery like HP ZBook 14 Battery, HP EliteBook 850 Battery, HP ZBook 15u Battery, HP CM03XL Battery, HP TPN-W108 Battery, HP HSTNN-IB4R Battery, HP HSTNN-LB4R Battery, HP 717376-001 Battery, HP 716724-1C1 Battery, HP EliteBook 855 G2 Battery, HP EliteBook 750 Battery, HP EliteBook 840 G1 Battery. It’s a 6th generation (still latest) Intel Core i5-6200U with two cores, 2.3GHz clock speed and a turbo of 2.8GHz. The unit is quite capable for power user oriented work too; it receives a score of 3900 in CPU Mark benchmark which can be considered mid-range for a notebook. Also don’t forget the laptop comes with one 8GB RAM stick, a good amount to keep the system running smoothly, and as far as I know you can upgrade it to 16 gigabytes.
The screen is excellent, a 15.6″ non-touch matte model offering Full HD resolution which is quite rare for this price! A webcam is installed on top of the display, allowing for some Skype video chats.
Networking options include 802.11ac WiFi + Bluetooth adapter and 100Mbps RJ-45 port to get you connected to Internet.
The battery life is decent here; many people have been reporting 4-6 hours while browsing the web and similar light use. Also, the battery is a removable unit.
For this low price every component is not great; that’s evident in the storage drive section of HP 15-ay011nr. You’ll get one terabyte hard drive – a platter-based one – with 5400RPM spindle speed. It works wonders as a pure data storage (around 200 DVDs being equal to 1TB), but such an old-school hard drive doesn’t really contribute to snappy performance. A technical person can of course swap it for a faster SSD if he wants to.
The laptop contains DVD burner, not everybody needs it in 2016 anymore but some do. Media card reader (SD) is located next to the optical drive.
There are three USB ports, one is USB 3.0 while two are USB 2.0. A full-size HDMI output is available if you want to hook up a monitor.
It’s gaming that’s a bit problematic with HP 15-ay011nr. You will not find dedicated graphics card inside so you’ll have to do with the integrated Intel HD 520. It’s alright for casual gaming if you can do with less eye candy and not-so-good FPS: for example, GTA 5 will net you ca. 25FPS played on normal (low) and 1366×768 resolution. A lesser game like Counter-Strike: Go runs fine on high settings.
The keyboard is not backlit.
The pure value of HP 15-ay011nr is rather good. It’s definitely not an expensive laptop; I’d almost call it cheap, but you’re still getting a lot in return: a powerful processor, adequate amount of RAM and a Full HD screen (a treat for power users I’d say!). What the notebook is lacking is great gaming performance thanks to the missing dedicated graphics, but that is the “problem” with all notebooks in this price range. So, if gaming is not your cup of tea, I think it’s a good idea for you to check this HP out!
